Naila is a resort collection inspired by Casa Naila, The Naila House, a modular vacation home in Puerto Escondido, Oaxaca, Mexico. Designed by architect Alfonso Quiñones and completed in 2019, the home is designed to both pay respect to the land it sits on and to consider new ways of using it, with an open-air floor plan and a striking mix of angles and natural shapes to create large shared spaces. Named after a traditional Mexican song, the house and its grounds are rooted in longstanding Mexican culture, knowledge and tradition, with everything from its palm bone outer layer to its clay oven and naturally-heating clay and earth floors.
I was extraordinarily drawn to this home, and I have designed and made a capsule collection inspired by the lines, materials and colors seen in Naila. Shop the collection here.
My inspiration, Naila House in Oaxaca, Mexico. Original photographs by Edmund Sumner.
Along with the collection, I have designed another modular vacation home, a proverbial neighbor to the Naila House. I have always appreciated architecture and interior design as wonderful sensory arts alongside fashion, and designing this home from scratch was a great way for me to consider the shapes, materials and spaces of the Oaxaca home. I used Planner 5D, a home design app I have used for many years, to complete this part of this capsule.
